How To Paint With The Roller: Here’s What You Need To Know.

House Painter Techniques Broomfield

There are two types of the roller on the market:

  • the long-haired one used for outdoors, e
  • the short-haired one used for interiors.

Simple: the one for exteriors serves to reach all the small holes in the wall, which, compared to the interior one, is much rougher.

When buying a roller, you must also buy brushes.

You will use the roller to make the widest parts where there are no sockets, switches, or other “barriers” while the brushes will be used for the corners and for all the points where a little precision will be needed!

For your convenience as a homeowner in Broomfield CO, we will now explain the exact procedure by points.

1) After purchasing the roller, and before using it, you must cut the hair from both ends (see photo). This is because, when you use it to paint, the outer hair of the roller will leave traces on the wall.

2) Another important thing to do before starting. Before using the roller, you need to know that it must be wet. Even if new, the hair is dry, and you have to run it under water to increase its effectiveness. After wetting it, you have to remove the excess water.

3) With the help of a table (see photo), place the roller on edge and slide it to remove excess water. If you put it while it is still full of water in the paint bucket, you will dilute the paint further, and this is not good.

4) After doing this, many do-it-yourself painters’ mistakes are not to put a net in the bucket. This tool helps you distribute the color correctly all over the roller and drop any excess into the bucket.

5) Before starting, always remember to cover furniture, skirting boards, sockets, and anything that can get dirty with the right accessories. For example, another trick we often use is when we need to paint near sockets or switches. You have to remove the mask with a screwdriver and cover it with the yellow paper tape all over the plastic. Thanks to this little trick, you will avoid wasting a lot of time cleaning.

6) First, start to make the edges with a brush and, in particular, on the ceiling, edges, and the moldings. After dipping the roller in the bucket and using the net to distribute the color, you can move on to painting the wall.

7) When you see that the roller is no longer able to paint and see that it colors less than initially, it’s time to dip it back into the bucket. Try to always keep the edge where you passed for the last time wet to make the new color transition uniform with the previous one. If you stop in the middle of the wall for a break and start again to finish it later, you risk seeing the sign between the passage made before and after the stop.

8) To dry it, use the trick we taught you earlier again. With the help of a table (see photo) or anything with an edge, place the roller and slide it to remove excess water.
