How to go to Camiguin
Camiguin Island would always be one of my favorite Philippine province. I have spent 2 full days in the island but it was not enough to explore its wonders. I just love the laid-back tropical atmosphere that would let you experience total solitude, away from the crowd and worries. But before you get to experience all these, you have to figure out how to get there first.
Here's how to go to Camiguin:
If you are from Manila or Cebu, there are daily flight of Cebu Pacific or Air Philippines to Cagayan de Oro City. Then from Cagayan de Oro, you have to options to reach Camiguin Island, either by bus or by ferry.
From Cagayan de Oro
From the Lumbia airport (Cagayan de Oro) you can take a cab to Agora terminal. At the terminal get on a bus bound for Butuan and alight at Balingoan Port. Travel time is approximately 2 hours and fare should be 84 pesos. At Balingoan, take ferry bound for Camiguin, fare is 170 and travel time is 1 hour. Ferries from Balingoan leave as early as 6 in the morning.
From Lumbia airport take a cab to Macabalan Port. OceanJet is the only fast ferry plying directly to Camiguin and they only have one trip per day. The ferry leaves Macabalan Port as early as 8:30 in the morning. Tickets pegged at 550 pesos and travel time is one hour and thirty minutes.
Camiguin is fairly accessible from Bohol where Super Shuttle Ferry ply the Bohol-Camiguin route via Jagna on a daily basis. The ferry leaves Jagna pier daily at 1PM and travel time is 4 hours. Ticket via this route pegged at 400 pesos but they have a promo which only cost half the price. If you want a fast ferry, OceanJet leaves Jagna at 1:30PM, travel time is 2 hours and ticket cost 550 pesos.
Unfortunately as of now, only MidseaExpress serves the Cebu-Camiguin route by air. They have a flight thrice weekly but the schedule is irregular. Call them first and check if there is a flight on your departure date: MidseaExpress contact numbers: 495-6976; 512-4241.
At Benoni (Camiguin) Port, there are habal-habal you can hire for the entire day which cost 800 pesos and 1500 pesos for a multicab. Contact person for the tour: Kuya Jojo (0905-9566288). And for the activities you might want to do, here are my personal picks: Top 5 Things to Do in Camiguin.
To return to Manila or Cebu, you just have to retrace your steps and you will be back in your destination in no time.
